Within the field of nanotechnologies, VINF (www.vinf.eu) activities focus specifically on nanosized nanostructured thin films. The Institute was established to overcome the fragmentation of European research in that specific field.
VINF and its members undertake joint collaborative research activities in the field of multifunctional nanofilms, focusing on really novel scientific and technological ideas. The institute participates actively in research programs at the European, National and Regional levels. Its wide network and close connection with the EC allows VINF to improve research proposals quality and thus to increase likelihood to obtain funding.
VINF organizes the European Conference on Nanofilms (www.ecnf.eu) from 17th to 21st of June 2012 in Ancona, Italy. After the great success of the first edition in Liege 2010 that gathered more than 250 delegates from industry and academia, the 2012 edition aims to provide a global and applicative oriented vision of European research on Nanofilms. From the synthesis of nanoparticles up to the mass production of nanocoatings, this multisession symposium will thus review critical topics for nanofilms development.
EUROPEAN POST-GRADUATE TRAINING 2011-2012
Starting in 2009, VINF launched a two-year training program with advanced lectures and seminars related to Nanofilms Science and Technology. The program is dedicated to students (PhDs), young scientists (post-docs) and personnel working in industries. The program is based on various modules. Attendants can follow any module and the certificates will be independent for each module.
Module I: Multicomponent nanostructured coatings. Nanofilms (October 2011- Moscow)
Modules II: Nanofilms characterization: Microstructural and chemical (July 2012 – Seville)
Modules III: topics to be confirmed
NANOFILMS CHARACTERIZATION: MICROSTRUCTURAL AND CHEMICAL
40 h post-graduate training focused on Electron Microscopy and related techniques for the microstructural and chemical characterization of nanomaterials
This 3 day training will be composed of two parts: the first day will be devoted to a basic approach on general characterization techniques such as X-Ray diffraction, X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy, Atomic Force Microscopy and Scanning Electron Microscopy.
The second and third day will focus on advanced Transmission Electron Microscopy techniques. Practical training classes on: AFM, SEM, TEM and EELS.
The training program will be organized together with the 1st Al-NanoFunc workshop: “Advanced characterization of Materials”. All participants on the training program are welcome to participate at the workshop. Abstracts for poster and oral sections are welcome.
*This program will be completed with the attendance to the workshop “Advanced microstructural characterization of nanomaterials”. Certificate of attendance will be only delivered for the days complete training (including the workshop lectures)
